Yahoo! to change name to Altaba after sale

Search company Yahoo! will change its name to Altaba after the sale of its core assets to Verizon is completed, according to a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company also said that chief executive officer Marissa Mayer would step down from the board.

Also leaving the board after the Verizon sale will be David Filo, Eddy Hartenstein, Richard Hill, Jane Shaw and board chairman Maynard Webb, reducing its size to five.

Tor Braham, Eric Brandt, Catherine Friedman, Thomas McInerney and Jeffrey Smith will continue to serve as directors.

Yahoo! agreed to sell its core assets to Verizon for US$4.43 billion in July 2016.

But following disclosures last year of two hacks which resulted in massive leaks of customer details, Verizon has been reported to be seeking either a smaller price or else a cancellation of the deal.

One leak was disclosed in September and the second in December.
