Samsung’s Galaxy A, 2017 – premium phones at a mid-market price

It is well known that today’s flagship features eventually find their way into tomorrow’s mid-market smartphones but Samsung has taken the bold move to offer key GS7 features – amazing AMOLED screens, IP68 water and dust resistance, metal frame, 16MP camera, USB-C, micro-SD slot, biometric identification, colour choices, and more – in a new range competing directly with the S7.

The new Galaxy A comes in a 5.7” A7, a 5.2” A5, and a 4.7” A3 all with very high screen to body ratio reducing wasteful top and bottom bezels and making these more pocketable than competitor offerings.

These phones are significant in so far as they have features that were previously only on flagship A$1000+ models and provide the same functionality for a much lower cost. They represent a significant advance over the current entry level Galaxy J series that ranges from A$199-399 and have been very successful in the mass market.

It is expected the A series will fall into the mid-market A$499-$699 price bracket offering serious competition to the excellent OPPO R9 and R9 Plus.
