Galaxy Note7 probe result this month: report

Samsung Electronics will this month release the results of a probe into the Galaxy Note7 devices that spontaneously combusted after release last year, according to a report in the JoongAnd Ilbo newspaper.

The newspaper's claim, which cited unnamed sources, was reported by Reuters.

The Note7 was released in August last year and the first reports of the device exploding were published in September. A month later, Samsung was forced to stop production of the Note7.

In the period that followed, Samsung was reported to be in the process of investigating the fiasco and preparing to release a report before the end of the year.

Instrumental, a small firm of qualified engineers, carried out an investigation into the Note7 and came to the conclusion that Samsung had packed the battery too tightly, causing it to explode.

The company did not react to this report which was widely publicised.

Samsung has warned that its operating profit will take a hit of US$5.1 billion over three quarters due to its decision to stop production of the Note7.
